Potential Fire Hazard Leads to Recall of Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon

If you purchased a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon between December 2016 and October 2017 you may want to take a look at the model number because Lenovo have recalled the 5th generation of the notebook.

In New Zealand, Lenovo have made the voluntary recall in the interests of public safety due to an unfastened screw inside the ThinkPad X1 Carbon. This faulty screw could damage the battery causing it to overheat and become a potential fire hazard.

The affected models are:

MT

20HQ

20HR

20K3

20K4

Built between

12/16-10/17

Anyone who thinks they are affected by the recall are advised to turn off the system and contact Lenovo who are offering free service inspections to correct the fault.

Lenovo have provided full instructions on their website for customers to identify if their model is affected and what to do, this is found here https://support.lenovo.com/nz/en/solutions/ht504453 or call 0800 787 806 to speak direct to Lenovo.
