]]>It is only 4 days until Father’s Day and given the last fortnight it is totally reasonable if you forgot.
But it isn’t too late to get that present shipped directly to Dad or the father figure in your life.
If you aren’t confident in the couriers due to their increased workload then maybe some of the digital goodies or subs at the bottom may cut the mustard.
Or just make them a card or give them a call. It is the thought that counts.
Brian reviewed the Oppo Find X3 Lite and determined “Overall, the Oppo Find X3 Lite is a $1200 phone in a $799 package”.
If $800 isn’t too steep for Fathers Day and Dad needs a new phone then we have an answer. This glorious beast.
When Blair reviewed the Fitbit Sense he was blown away at how much of a premium bit of technology this was. It was definitely not just a fitness tracker, but a means to get some relaxation and a great bit of tech. If your father figure likes tech then you can’t go wrong with the Sense.
On the flip side if you father figure likes tech but wants to look a little fancier, then how about a look at the Fitbit Luxe? Hannah reviewed it and found that while it doesn’t have all the tech and gadgets, it is a great fitness tracker that looks amazing too.
No matter what your Dad likes, Fitbit wants an option available.
Maybe your Dad needs a new headset.
Well Blair checked out the Astro A50 Wireless Headset on Xbox Series X and the cheaper HyperX Cloud Stinger Core Wireless Gaming Headset For PlayStation.
Both he deemed were great headsets for the price.
The Astro A50 Wireless Headset is available for PlayStation as well and it blew Blair away. The quality of the sound, battery life, and comfort were all excellent. They of course come with a $500 price tag, so you really get what you pay for here.
For a lot of people $500 is way too much for a headset. Hell for some people $500 is too much for rent, but we won’t go down that rabbit hole here. I am trying to convince you buying stuff is cool.
So for the more budget conscious gamer a cheaper headset might be needed. If your Dad has a PS5 then the $170 HyperX Cloud Stinger Core Wireless Gaming Headset For PlayStation may be what the doctor ordered.
Blair reviewed and was blown away at the quality and comfort given the price. It also looks pretty cool next to the PS5 and DualSense.
Does your father figure work from home? Maybe he is just a PC gamer with an old mouse? Either way we checked out a couple of amazing mice this year.
For the all frills approach there is the Steelseries Prime Wireless Mouse. Blair reviewed this and couldn’t believe how well this mouse performed. That and a rechargeable battery with a long battery life makes it a banger. But it does rock a $250 price tag.
If that is too high of a price tag, then the HyperX Pulsefire Haste cabled mouse might be what the doctor ordered. With its hex design it is super light and can look super colorful. Blair was very impressed given its under $100 price tag.
There is a bunch of subscription services with a wide selection of TV shows and Movies. But what if your father or father figure has a very specific taste.
Well if they like British mystery, drama and comedy then Acorn TV might make them very happy. If Horror is their jam then Shudder could be exactly what the doctor ordered.
These have monthly and annual pricing depending on your budget. Monthly subscriptions are $7.99/month or take the annual membership option of $79.99.
If my son or wife are reading this, no thanks to Shudder. The logo scares this wuss enough…
If your Dad is a Switch gamer then Bronwyn was impressed with Mario Golf: Super Rush. This would allow playing with the whole family, or on his own in the basement. Whatever your father needs this fathers day this should do it.
If you are after an anime style action title then Blair was blown away by Scarlet Nexus. This one you could get your dad on PC, Xbox, or PlayStation.
This would be the perfect game for your father figure to melt into on the couch while you make them their breakfast, lunch, and tea. Or maybe just the game and they cook. Your call.
If Dad is gaming on a Xbox but for some reason doesn’t have Game Pass, then this is a no brainer. An absurd number of games available to play on the fly with titles changing on the regular.
And if he is just a PC gamer you can pick up Xbox Game Pass for PC. Or Game Pass Ultimate covers him on both machines.
What do you get a dad with all the latest games and toys? How about a new game so he can have it day one.
Is Dad into sports games? Well NBA 2K22 will be releasing on September 10 so only a few days after Fathers Day. If you nab some awesome pre-order bonuses he might be extra excited.
Maybe an adventure is what he needs he wants to put his PS5 to full use. Then maybe Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a nagical world he can escape to.
Kena Bridge of Spirits launches on the 21st to PS5 so a slightly longer wait for Dad. It does like it is worth waiting for.
Obviously with pre-orders you are taking the gamble as you don’t know their quality yet. But maybe something nice shiny and new is what Dad needs. And he can’t tell you the game sucks if it is a gift anyway.

]]>Have you always wondered what a world interconnected by red strings that is regularly attacked by terrifying creatures that are hauntingly animalistic and inanimate at the same time would be like? Well that is a specific and odd question but Scarlet Nexus has brought you the answer.
One thing I have always liked about anime series is they have the power to do some truly weird and unique things. Anime games tend to take the style of anime but not always the substance. Well Scarlet Nexus has bucked that trend by making one truly weird story.
The game has two protagonists Yuito and Kasane. You choose the one to play and you experience the story from their perspective. Their story is tightly woven so the characters interact and are central to each other’s journeys but spend a lot of time away from each other. This means that to get the full story you can play the game twice and see what happened while the other character was away.
The story can travel quickly so there are times you will wonder how a character has changed or wonder what caused something. This actually gives some serious value to a second playthrough. The tough thing is the game is quite long, so my full second playthrough will need to wait for another day.
Scarlet Nexus is set in a post apocalyptic world where there is a mysterious Extinction Belt that covers the sky. From this comes the mysterious alien-like creatures called the Others which attack humans to eat their brains. You know, nice light hearted action stuff.
Kasane and Yuito are our two protganists. They have joined the team super powered soldiers called the OSF. This team are the only ones with the ability to fight back against these creatures. These skill types vary from being able to duplicate, go invisible, use lightning attacks, and fling objects with your mind. These soldiers need to protect the last groups of humanity from these attacks.
I don’t want to touch too much on the story because there are a lot of interesting developments and shifts in the story that you should enjoy yourself. Also the vast majority of the story I only experienced from Kasane’s side. Basically though it starts with the new recruits accidentally finding themselves fighting others and then they get thrown into a bigger story they didn’t expect.
Groups of OSF soldiers fracture, other groups of people are discovered, and a heap of interesting story moments unfold. The story can fly so much I had to go back to check the journal a few times.
One thing the game does well is in between chapters you spend some time at a safehouse. Here you get some time for your protagonist to chat to the supporting characters, buy them gifts, and go on little side missions or cutscenes with them. This is useful as it does allow each supporting character to build a personality with your protagonist. That while building their relationship gives them abilities and perks for combat.
Combat is an interesting one. A lot of the time it is a relatively generic hack n slash action game with some cool hooks. The first is you can whittle away at an enemy’s shield and then that opens up a weak spot which you can use the left trigger to do an instant kill attack on. Thanks to the resistance on the Dual Sense controller, this feels so satisfying to land on PS5.
The other major aspect is the use of your team. Depending on who is with you character in that stage of the story, you will have teammates fighting but you can borrow their powers. As you upgrade skills you can use even more at once. This means you can be hitting the enemies with three Kasanes using fire attacks with time slowed down. It can be super OP at times but it is fun as hell.
The other thing I adore is the game’s aesthetic. It‘s a beautiful game in a haunting way. The Others can be absolutely horrifying to think about, when you have vases of flowers with legs in high heels, or Goats with mechanical bodies. The use of living creatures, mixed with inanimate or mechanical objects, is so damn unnerving and creepy. Super creative, but creepy.
Added to this is the use of comic panels at times separated using red strings, with some still objects, some with movements, and then actual cutscenes. This gives the whole game so much flair and with the fully english voice acting I was all in. Scarlet Nexus decided it was going to be stylish, and it frickin ‘is.
The only problem is the game can get a little repetitive. The combat can be super awesome at times, but there are some levels where you run through fighting the same enemies over and over again. That and some of the environments can get a bit samey. But in the end when I returned to an environment I was a bit gutted. They could have cut some of the dialogue or some of the map sizes and the game would have flowed better. This is what has me wanting to wait a while before the second playthrough.
Despite this, I adored this game. Sure it is a bit long, but the story is weirdly cool. Then there is the creepy yet stylish enemies and combat that is actually fun to play. Scarlet Nexus is a genuine banger of a game that should not be overlooked.

The game releases this Winter 2021 (ANZ time) on Xbox Series X|S, XB1, PS5, PS4, and PC.
Some hostile creatures called “Others” descend from the skies in a world where brain functionalities connect people.
Threatened of being devoured, the rest of humanity gathered into stronghold cities such as New Himuka, defended by a special group of combatants named the Others Suppression Force (OSF).
Follow the paths of OSF members Yuito Sumeragi and Kasane Randall as two playable characters with their own set of fighting skills.
The story of the game can be followed from Yuito but also Kasane’s point of view, giving two different experiences.
Both characters will benefit from the support of party members from the OSF as humanity’s last line of defense.
All OSF recruits have specific special powers that Kasane and Yuito can borrow, offering more gameplay possibilities and connecting all of them as one.
