The highlights included top of the line 5G, faster charging, and air charging.

OPPO hosted a flash charging partner conference at Mobile World Congress, Shanghai (MWCS). The event took place on the OPPO stand alongside a host of innovations in device charging, 5G connectivity and smart technology.
Leading partners from sectors including consumer electronics and chip manufacturing, as well as experts in charging technology from CCTL (China Telecommunication Technology Labs), came together to discuss the future of flash charge technology.
Meanwhile, numerous examples of cutting-edge charging products feature on OPPO’s stand, including the 125W flash charger, which can charge a 4,000mAh phone battery to 100% in just 20 minutes. This is joined by 65W AirVOOC wireless flash charge products—which charges the same battery in as little as 30 minutes—and products from several partners who have licensed OPPO’s proprietary technologies.
Elsewhere at MWC Shanghai, Henry Tang, Vice President of OPPO Research Institute, was invited to speak about 5G innovation at the 5G Innovation and Investment Summit:
“At OPPO, we firmly believe that 5G will change how we all live. As coverage and capacity expand, we’ll see new applications flourishing in numerous areas, bringing unexpected experiences to consumers. We’re already involved in the development of a global 5G standard, and will continue to explore new 5G devices and deployments, from TV to CPE to AR.”
OPPO’s MWCS stand features an array of innovative technologies including the flash charge area.
The Smart Home of the Future shows how OPPO’s IoT products can make our homes smarter and more connected than ever before. The unique 5G CPE, Omni, powered by Qualcomm® Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System sits at the heart of this area, capable of turning 5G signals into stable, high speed Wi-Fi connections through two proprietary antenna systems.
The O-Reserve 5G antenna system uses the Sub-6GHz 5G spectrum, automatically choosing four of its eight antennae at a time to get the best possible signal. At the same time, the O-Motion 360° technology can fully rotate its antennae, automatically ensuring the CPE is positioned for optimum 5G millimeter wave signal reception. OPPO, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., and Ericsson recently completed successful tests of 5G millimeter wave technology with the Omni, achieving downlink speeds of 4.06Gbps.
Visitors to the OPPO booth can learn more about Omni’s antenna systems and other 5G technologies. They can also experience Augmented Reality (AR) shopping and gaming in this area.
The Futuristic Technologies area lets MWCS guests get up close to the OPPO X 2021 concept phone, which features a screen that unrolls from 6.7 to 7.4 inches. Here they can also see how fast and easy charging is with OPPO’s new Wireless Air Charging technology, which can deliver up to 7.5W of charging power. This latest innovation uses magnetic resonance to remove some of the inconvenience of other wireless charging technologies, working as soon as devices are within 10cm of the charging mat.
Morgan Halim, Managing Director at OPPO New Zealand expressed how exciting these new developments are and how they will continue to shape and improve human interaction with technology.
“The latest innovations showcased at MWCS reiterate OPPO’s dedication to finding new ways to make technology as convenient as possible for our customers. As we continue to develop faster charging capabilities and grow IoT products, we’ll find more ways to improve connectivity and I’m excited to see these new technologies make it to the New Zealand market.”

]]>At 8bit Island we are unabashedly Oppo fans. Every time we get our hands on a device to review it catches us off guard with how outstanding the phone is, given the retail price. Now that Oppo has released their 5G series under the Find X2 line, getting my hands on the $800 Find X2 Lite I have been blown away yet again.
The first thing to note about the Find X2 Lite is that 5G thing which is giving everyone COVID-19. It hasn’t rolled out everywhere in NZ and in the case of Spark in Wellington, no luck yet. Though the tech in there did see some improvements already, with much faster and more consistent connections on the Hutt Valley train line. Switching back to my Renox 10x Zoom I noticed it dropped back so there are some improvements in tech, even on 4G while we wait for that sweet 5G coming.
As with all of the Oppo phones, the battery continues to be generous for the price and it rocks a 4025mAh battery like the A91. I did notice the battery drop faster than the A91 did which is no surprise as every wireless tech advance has more power requirements. Yet even using it to game and watch videos on the train and lunch break every day, as well as absurd amounts of podcast listening I still got a day and a half out of the battery. With a 20ish minute charge I got half a battery so it is easily good enough.
The phone is filled with Snapdragons giving it a lot of power, which is easily enough for casual gaming. If you are super serious about mobile gaming you may be more inclined to for the high end Find X2 Pro which is also bonkers value for the money, but for $800 there is plenty of power here for your gaming needs.
Another mainstay of the Oppo series is an excellent camera for the price. With most phones you have to buy their top tier ones to get above average camera arrays, but Oppo tends to load up their range with great cameras. The Find X2 Lite keeps that going with four cameras on the back and an excellent one on the front. With the smarts in the camera this makes for some excellent photos, even with my lack of talent.
The lack of an SD card slot is a little disappointing. The 128GB storage space should be plenty but I have always liked having a heap of my data being on an SD card for quick moving. Even the Find X2 Pro doesn’t have a slot, instead it has a heap more space with 512GB. One addition that some phones have been axing is the classic 3mm jack. I have adjusted to using bluetooth, but it’s always a handy backup to have if your headphones die.
Given the $799 price tag and the addition of 5G tech, the Find X2 Lite is a no brainer if you are shopping in this price range. By all accounts it feels like a much better phone than the price presents, and is only beaten for value by the more expensive Oppos. So you know, go buy it for the 5G revolution.
