After a dubious change in price structure that saw Fan Pass go up to $99.99 per month, SKY TV have finally relented and reduced the monthly price of Fan Pass.
Fans looking for a casual monthly pass will see the price drop from $99.99 per month to $58.99 per month. For those willing to accept a longer commitment, you can sign up for six months and get Fan Pass for $38.99, a reduction from the current $55.99 per month for a six month commitment.
The new pricing will start from Thursday 18 April and anyone who currently has an active Fan Pass will automatically see their pricing reduced to the new structure on their next billing cycle.
Another major benefit is that you’ll be able to cast the app onto the big screen!
At this stage Fan Pass continues to support Sky Sport channels 1 – 4, highlights and pay-per view events. Although admittedly my last experience with pay per view on Fan Pass was such a buffering, unplayable disaster that I haven’t used the product since then.
With Spark Sport having launched at $19.99 per month, albeit with limited sports rights it will be interesting to see how consumers react to the new price for Fan Pass. If you are a traditional Sky subscriber looking to go with just Fan Pass then I’d have to recommend going with the six month option for $38.99 per month. At it’s most basic you need Sky Starter to get Sky Sport so the minimum you’re going to pay is $47.99 directly through Sky so going the six month option is going to allow you to get a couple more milks when you sit down to watch your sport.
We do know that a streaming box similar to Vodafone TV is in the works so let hope that when they role that out it also comes with a price point for sport that will make people pay attention.
