Assassin’s Creed: Origins #1

Caution: light spoilers for the game Assassins Creed: Origins ahead.

If you are anything like me, then when you completed Assassins Creed Origins, your biggest issue was you didn’t spend enough time with Aya.  Throughout the game you got to see parts of her character, but it was limited.

Good news Aya fans, the Titan Comics series Assassin’s Creed Origins is here, and it’s more Aya.

The first issue opens with Cleopatra dealing with an execution, which inspires her to think back on the last person who defied her, Aya.  Kick in to Aya who is in Rome, dealing with the looming threat of Caesar.

She learns through the assassination of a mouthpiece of his, the importance of timing, especially with a kill.  This ultimately culminates with the assassination of Julius Caesar, which people who have played Assassins Creed Origins will realise, happens in the game.

The drawing style is less stylistic than some, and goes for a detailed depiction of the characters.  Each pane looks gorgeous, especially the death of Caesar scene, and should appeal to casual comic fans.

I can’t say to much more without spoiling the whole thing, so I will leave it there.

So far, the story of the series hasn’t gone past that of the game, but thanks to its spending time with Aya, it still feels totally new.  The tastes of Aya’s character is much welcome, and I look forward to seeing where this series takes us.
