Xmas Gift Guide – Games Edition

It may be cutting it a bit close to Christmas, but you still have a few days to lap up those last minutes presents. Our Xmas Gift Guide is here so inspire those purchases for your friends or loved ones.

Hell, after the year that has been 2020, buy yourself some of these for Christmas.

Look, I don’t care what kind of games you usually play. Roguelikes? Hades. Dating sims? Hades. Dark Souls? Yeah, I’m still gonna recommend Hades.

I reviewed it months ago, and haven’t stopped playing. It’s my game of the year; there’s no reason it shouldn’t be yours too.

The Last of Us Part 2

Kids, I have some bad news about Joel.

But the good news is Blair absolutely adored how badly this game made him feel.

The less said and the more played the better….

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Whether youre buying for a PS4 gamer or a PS5 gamer, there is a Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales available for you.

Taking what made the original game great, and making it better by being Miles, the game is a must play on the PlayStation of your choice. Well Blair thought so anyway.

Animal Crossing New Horizons

Home ownership? No responsibility? Friendly neighbours? There’s no better way to escape from The Year That Never Ends than with the lovable critters of Animal Crossing.

You’re free to be as wholesome or subtly creepy as you like, and Brian went very much towards creep. It’ll also take over a year to fully complete, so that’s value for money right there.

Ring Fit Adventure

Let’s be fair, 2020 has not been a healthy year for any of us. Provided you frame it correctly, Ring Fit Adventure is a perfect gift to help get back into shape. Just, ya know, be careful; it could be a touchy subject.

Also it only works with an OG Switch, so make sure your giftee has the right model to avoid confused disappointment on Christmas morning.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Eivor may have unclear motivations and just barely more personality than a crudely hewn face on a tree stump, but Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a damn romp. It’s also one of the only games on this list playable on the PS5/XBSX, so ya know, beggars and choosers.

Brian also reviewed this, and riddled it with Nordic puns.

Best Friend Forever

Want something more laid back? Wellington’s own Starcolt Studios’ debut game features dogs, dating, and dating dog owners.

Hannah found it to be good clean fun; you probably would too.

Nintendo Switch Lite

If anyone won 2020, it was Nintendo. The Switch is the best supported, most versatile console and despite not being a “game”, it absolutely belongs on this list.

So welcome to the Xmas Gift Guide – Games Edition you naughty piece of hardware you.
